Zone 4 #260: Mark Waid is… Incorrect?

The crew returns in full to celebrate the holiday and catch up with each other’s recent goings on. After congratulating a buddy, the guys dive into some headlines.

A couple of sidetracks later, and the guys look at the latest issue of Mark Waid’s Green Hornet, which doesn’t illicit as much fervor and excitement as previous issues for most of the crew.

If J.J. Abrams is the spiritual and artistic heir to Rod Serling, then I am a psychedelic kabuki hamster. Person Of Interest is a great show, because Abrams handed it off to better writers and walked away.

I agree about Mark Waid and the Green Hornet- the character is about playing off of his opponent’s expectations and misdirection. Kato and The Hornet are a con game or magic act- partners putting on a show to control what the mark believes or does. If a smart planner like Britt Reid doesn’t trust and communicate with his confederate, the act doesn’t work.

The appeal of the Green Hornet is that Britt Reid IS NOT the monster people think the character he and Kato created is. The reader is in on the joke, not the butt of it.

Serling’s heir (per Ron F.’s query on FB)? Chris Kubasic. Watch “The Booth at The End” on Hulu- it’s in it’s second season now.

    1. I have heard of that and seen previews. Looks pretty interesting, I’ll have to check it out.

      Thanks for the comments!
